The memory verses for these three weeks are given by Jesus to Nicodemus -- have you considered these?
¹⁶For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ¹⁷For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. ¹⁸He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I don't think it can be made any plainer than that, folks. Jesus gave the one reason a person would be condemned: "because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." That's it. Not because one didn't join a particular church, or worship a certain way -- God is looking at our heart and Hebrews 11:6 says, "Without faith it is impossible to please God..." Place the emphasis where it must be, we are saved by GRACE through FAITH. It is a gift of God -- thank Him, praise Him for His Gift!

This week's verse reminds us of the power in the name of Jesus! Acts 4:12, "Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved." We have no reason to make this difficult. We are to call on the name of the One who died for us! This verse is filled with life changing, eternal destiny changing truth! JESUS only!

Week of January 2, 2011

As we begin this new year, Psalm 90:12 will be our first memory verse. "So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom." I want to encourage you to write this verse on an index card, or post-it note and put around the house so you can work on it while you go about your daily activities. How much greater will our impact be in 2011 if we let this verse be a prayer on our lips. In our world today, we are often reminded of the brevity of life, but what advantage is that lesson if we don't apply it and make the most of each day by serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?

New for 2011 -- Memory Verses for the Week

How often do you catch yourself singing with the radio? or finishing the jingle from the television ad? We know we all have the ability to memorize, but often do not put forth the effort. My challenge to you in 2011 is to join me as we learn a new verse each week. Wow! Just think -- 52 verses committed to memory. Our motivation for doing this must be like that of the psalmist, "Thy Word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee." (Psalm 119:11)
